Good news Game of Thrones fans! Following a strong debut of the first two episodes of Season 2, where viewership reached a series high, HBO has renewed the show for a third season.
Game of Thrones is based on the best-selling “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels written by George R.R. Martin, and season three will follow the third book A Storm of Swords. Swords is one of the longest books in the series and due to all the events that occur within the novel some believe it will need to be split into more than one season, but no word yet on whether that will happen.
“Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss raised our expectations for the second season — and then surpassed them,” HBO president of programming Michael Lombardo said of the renewal in a press release. “We are thrilled by all the viewer and media support we’ve received for the series, and can’t wait to see what Dan and David have in store for next season.”
I don’t watch much TV nowadays but I make an exception for Game of Thrones. If you haven’t caught the show yet there’s still plenty of time catch up with Season 1 (it’s out on DVD and Blu-ray) and start watching Season 2 with the rest of us.
