Back in August 2003, a little movie called Freddy vs Jason came out. For the first time in years, these two horror icons stood face to face in the ultimate battle royale. The movie cost about $25 million to produce, but made New Line Cinema well over $115 million in worldwide gross. Of course, as soon as the film was a success, rumblings of a sequel began. The only logical way to go for the next installment would be to bring in yet another horror icon: none other than Ashley J. Williams of Evil Dead.

Jeff Katz was brought in to write a treatment for the film that the studios could decide on. Unfortunately, even though the treatment was damned good, the deals to greenlight the film were never completed. Thus, the ultimate battle royale round two never came to fruitiation.

At least on the screen, that is.

Finally, after years of waiting, us horror nerds can finally get what we have been waited for: Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash! The three masters of the horror world will be going head to head to head in a six issue mini-series, coming from Wildstorm and Dynamite Entertainment. It is written by James Kuhoric, with art by by Jason Craig. J. Scott Campbell is doing the covers as well. The series is based on Katz’s original script treatment, and is sure to please fans everywhere.

The first issue of the book came out this week, and I highly recommend you pick it up.  Granted, it’s only the first issue, so it’s mostly set-up. However, it still kicks all forms of ass. It’s definitely worth the cover price.

Head over to Newsarama for a brief interview with Jeff Katz, and some preview pages from the first issue.

Also, be sure to download the script treatment here to see what’s in store for the series, courtesy of Bloody-Disgusting.com
