Frank Grillo added to Kathryn Bigelow’s bin Laden movie

Kathryn Bigelow was the first woman to ever win Best Director at the Academy Awards for The Hurt Locker, and she’s set her sights on a story about Osama bin Laden in hopes that she might do the same thing again. Bigelow has already locked down a stellar cast for her next movie, which is technically still untitled but has gone under the names Kill Bin Laden and Zero Dark Thirty. Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong, Chris Pratt, Kyle Chandler, Joel Edgerton, and much more are already on board, and now Variety reports that Frank Grillo is reuniting with his Warrior star (Edgerton) as the latest to join the action.

Grillo was fantastic in The Grey earlier this year, and he’s really been carving out a nice career with small roles in great ensembles. This looks to be no different, and although we aren’t sure exactly what character he’ll be playing, chances are pretty likely he’ll be one of the soldiers on Seal Team 6, the elite unit responsible for killing Osama bin Laden. The Hurt Locker screenwriter Mark Boal had been working on a script about the hunt for bin Laden before the real-life team took out the terrorist leader, and Boal had to scramble to rewrite the ending before production began. The film’s planned release is set for December 19th, 2012.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what Boal and Bigelow can do together with a larger cast than they had for their previous Best Picture winner. How about you?
