First trailer for The Bling Ring starring Emma Watson

theblingring-emma-watsonThe first trailer for Sofia Coppola‘s The Bling Ring has appeared online. The film is inspired by actual events and follows a group of fame-obsessed teenagers (lead by Harry Potter actress Emma Watson) who use the internet to track down celebrities in order to rob their homes.

The teaser is less than a minute long and only contains one line of dialogue (“Lets go shopping”), but the film looks interesting and it’s good to see Watson choosing her projects wisely post-Potter. Smaller indie films where she plays a normal person in non-fantasy environments will help her detach from Hermione, but it won’t be long before the studios come calling again.

Taissa Farmiga, Israel Broussard, Katie Chang, Claire Pfister, and Georgia Rock also star in the film, and a limited US release on June 14th has been set. The distributor is the newly launched A24, who will be releasing Spring Breakers starring James Franco, Selena Gomez, and Vanessa Hudgens later this month.

  • Modest Complexity

Can’t wait for this movie to come out. Finally looks like there will be a Sofia Coppola movie that I’m into – while I respect her filmmaking ability, I think she’s take on kind of dry, boring scripts, and I’m interested to see how she does with what (to me) is a much more exciting type of film.

Also, loved that they used “Crown On The Ground” by Sleigh Bells in the trailer, that’s exactly the type of song that wouldn’t be in one of the slower dramas that Coppola has done in the past, and I think will fit the mood of this film. Also, can’t wait to see Emma Watson in this type of role, too I think she’s up to it, and it’d be nice to see her push her boundaries too.
