First trailer for Red Dawn

red dawn Image The long dormant (read shelved by MGM) remake of Red Dawn will finally see the light of day in theaters later this year, so over the weekend FilmDistrict released the first trailer and it doesn’t look nearly as bad as I was expecting.

Watch below:

Red Dawn is a remake of the 1984 cult classic with the same name that starred Charlie Sheen and the late Patrick Swayze among others. The original featured a Soviet invasion on the US while this time around North Korea is the new enemy (after a few edited scenes and some CGI work meant to change Chinese symbols to Korean).

Principal photography was done back in 2009 on the new Red Dawn with a set release date for 2010. Judging by the year we’re in, you can guess that didn’t pan out. MGM’s financial problems at the time caused the multiple delays but thanks to FilmDistrict, which took over distribution duties back in September 2011, Red Dawn will finally drop on the silver screen very soon.

Directed by Dan Bradley (directorial debut), Red Dawn stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games), Adrianne Palicki, Josh Peck, Isabel Lucas, Connor Cruise (adopted son of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman) and the now famous Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers, Snow White and the Huntsman, Thor).

Red Dawn opens November 21st in North America.

So what do you think of this remake?
