After a lot of waiting we finally have our first look at the remake/reboot of the cult horror classic, The Evil Dead. Fans of the original will be happy to see that the trailer is red band, and filled with all the gruesome violence and gore that they loved.
However, many of those same fans may be discouraged by the serious tone of the trailer. The original was a hit because of the campy tone and silliness that put Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi on the map. To top it all off Ash’s character has been replaced by a girl.
Judge for yourself:
It’s not all bad news however; anyone who saw the original trailers for Cabin in the Woods will remember how similar they were to the above trailer. Like Cabin in the Woods, it may turn out that the ads aren’t being entirely truthful about how serious the movie takes itself, in order to appeal to a wider audience.
It’s also encouraging the lead, which was originally supposed to go to the dull Lily Collins, is now being played by rising star Jane Levy of Suburgatory and the upcoming film Fun Size. We’ll get a chance to see if it lives up to expectations when it’s released on April 12th.
