To celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday for at least the last twenty years, the President of the United States pardons a turkey and thus spares the bird from being eaten. What happens to the turkeys after they are pardoned?
Well, Relativity Media will try to give us an answer. Their animated movie Free Birds, formerly-titled Turkeys, revolves around two turkeys: Wilson and Harrelson who travel back in time to the first Thanksgiving in hopes of taking turkeys off the menu forever.
Here’s the first trailer for the whole thing, originally from Apple:
Teaser looks funnier than you would think, but not by much, having in mind that the buddy comedy will reportedly be competing for a slot in the lackluster list of Oscar-potential animated films this year.
Jimmy Hayward, the helmer of the Horton Hears a Who! CGI movie, directs the upcoming animation from the script by David I. Stern, Craig Mazin and John J. Strauss.
The new holiday-themed movie hits theaters on November 1 in the US and features the voices of Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson, Amy Poehler, Dan Fogler, George Takei, Colm Meaney, Keith David and Dwight Howard.
Check out the full synopsis for the film:
Owen Wilson voices a lucky turkey named Reggie who gets pardoned by the president and is sent to live his life comfortably at a farm in Camp David. But as soon as Reggie gets settled in, he meets a wild turkey named Jake (Woody Harrelson) who recruits him to help scour a military base for a hidden time machine which Jake plans to use to go back in time to the first Thanksgiving and somehow get turkeys off the menu for good.
