“Oh, yes” was the response from Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman when asked if there’d be a fifth Mission Impossible movie. Dauman confirmed the news while speaking at the company’s annual shareholder meeting, and it was to be expected given that Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol made $680 million around the world.
THR says it’s not clear who will return for the next film, both in front and behind the camera. Director Brad Bird isn’t signed to return, and neither are screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec. Obviously Tom Cruise will be back, and we can assume that some of the supporting players (Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Simon Pegg) may be involved.
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol took the franchise to new commercial and critical heights, so a 5th film will have a lot to live up to. Are you ready for another mission?
