Following news yesterday of a few more actresses trying out for roles in Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot, namely that of Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy, Deadline has updated their post saying “Sony Pictures Entertainment will imminently offer the role of Mary Jane Watson to Emma Stone”.
Emma Stone made her movie debut in Superbad, which lead her to Zombieland and most recently Easy A. Stone had apparently read with Andrew Garfield and Sony must have seen some chemistry between the two. Her hair will have no doubt been a factor in her casting, as well as her acting.
According to Deadline the contest is now down to the role of Gwen Stacy who is Peter Parker’s first love interest in the film. Mary Jane Watson will become more pivotal in the later movies, so Stone will probably sign a multi-picture deal with the promise of a larger role in future sequels.
Filming is scheduled to begin in December.
