Deadline claims that Emily VanCamp (TV’s Revenge) is close to landing the female-lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She has steadily gained a solid reputation after impressing on the small screen in Everwood and Brothers And Sisters, but it was her big break as the all-action heroine Emily Thorne in Revenge that seems to have caught the eye of Marvel.
When a rejuvenated Chris Evans burst onto the scene as Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America in 2011, it almost became a full-blown testosterone affair. Luckily Hayley Atwell’s no-nonsense performance as Peggy Carter balanced everything out. It emphasised the absolute necessity for a strong female character to provide much needed emotional depth in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Here’s the scoop from Deadline:
I’m told that Marvel Studios has found its female lead for the sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier. They are in talks with Emily VanCamp, who makes the leap to the big screen after starring in such series as ABC’s Revenge, the WB’s Everwood and Brothers And Sisters. She joins Chris Evans in a sequel that doesn’t have a firm start date, but will be released April 4, 2014. The film is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo.
I’m a huge fan of Emily VanCamp after watching her take no prisoners in Revenge; the show is a personal guilty pleasure of mine. She is very physically fit, a strong personality and a natural beauty, so I have no doubt that she’ll comfortably hold her own opposite Chris Evans’ Captain America.
It seems very likely that VanCamp will take on the role of Sharon Carter, and if this is the case, she will be perfect for the role. The film will also star Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders and Anthony Mackie.
