Steven Grant’s graphic novel 2 Guns has gone through some interesting changes on its way to the big screen. Its earliest form had stars Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson attached, but has changed directions considerably with the casting of Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg as two undercover agents who, unaware that the other is undercover, unknowingly steal millions from the CIA and are framed for the crime. According to Variety, the project just found a villain in the form of Edward James Olmos. Hit the jump for more info.
Olmos, perhaps best known for his work on “Battlestar Galactica,” will play Papi Greco, a dangerous Mexican druglord who squares off against our two heroes. Paula Patton joined the cast as Washington’s love interest a while back, and True Lies star Bill Paxton has also signed on to play a CIA agent in the film. Olmos is coming off an evil turn on the Showtime series “Dexter,” and is a veteran who can bring gravitas to just about any role, so I can’t wait to see him chew some scenery and face off against the unlikely pairing of Wahlberg and Washington.
What do you think about this piece of casting? Excited to see Olmos returning to the big screen?
