It’s that time of the year again. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse took in more than $30 million from midnight screenings on Wednesday according to Summit Entertainment. This number surpasses the previous midnight record of $26.3 million set on opening day last November by The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
If ‘Twihards’ continue this relentless demand for Edward Cullen and friends Eclipse could be on track for one of the biggest opening days ever (beating another record held by New Moon).
The reviews for the third film have been kinder than the last outing. Eclipse currently stands at 51% Rotten on Rotten Tomatoes compared to New Moon‘s 27%. However, despite its huge financial success Summit has yet to produce a movie than has been accepted by both fans and non-fans alike. I haven’t seen the films so I can’t comment but the general consensus is that it is hard to embrace the films if you haven’t read the books beforehand, and by making average to below average movies Summit aren’t helping to convert people.
Although looking at the numbers I don’t think they really need to. New Moon made $700 million worldwide last year so expect Eclipse to make similar numbers.
Will you be seeing Eclipse at some point? Have you already seen it?
