Don LaFontaine Dies

Some of you reading may be thinking ‘Who the hell is Don LaFontaine?’. We’ll if you don’t know his name then there is a 99% chance that you know his voice. Don LaFontaine has done voiceovers for over 750,000 television spots and 5,000 movie trailers. He became identified with the phrase “In a world…”, which has been used in movie trailers so frequently that it has become a cliché.

Unfortunately, on September 1st LaFontaine died of complications relating to pneumothorax. In my opinion he was the best voiceover man around and his voice will hugely missed.

What's the source of this 750,000 spots? That's 2 and 1/2 spots an hour, 24 hours per day, 365 days a year for 35 years. 58 spots a day, year in and year out. Somebody's exaggeratin' here.
