Just over a week ago we heard about a super secret project J.J Abrams and Steven Spielberg were working on which would “deal with everyday people whose personal relationships are tested when they are thrown up against extraordinarily fantastic — and possibly other-worldly — events.”
Well today we have more details on the project. In fact, were going to be getting more than just details by the end of a week. J.J Abrams has already shot a teaser for the film which will be attached to screenings of Iron Man 2. Descriptions of the teaser, which Abrams shot independently about a month ago, have been appearing online and its safe to say sci-fi fans will be very interested.
From Deadline: (trailer spoilers)
I’m told the trailer begins with a pickup truck that veers onto a train track, heading directly for a locomotive. The legend appears: “In 1979, the US Air Force closed a section of Area 51. All the materials were to be transported to a secure facility in Ohio.” The truck hits the train, there is a tremendous explosion destroying the vehicle and the train. The camera focuses on one train car that wasn’t destroyed. A heavy pounding is heard from inside.
Paramount has set a summer 2011 release for the film (no specifics yet), and Super 8 has a budget of around $45 million. Abrams will direct it (with Spielberg producing) later this year, before returning to direct Star Trek 2 early next year.
