Just over a week ago Darren Aronofsky was “in negotiations” to direct Wolverine 2 for 20th Century Fox, then a few days later he was close to a deal. Now Deadline reports that both Fox and Aronofsky are discussing a filming timetable, which makes it pretty much a done deal.
Apparently filming will take place in New York in March, which will allow Aronofsky to attend any award ceremonies for Black Swan should it get nominated, then they will head to Japan to shoot the rest.
The film, written by The Usual Suspects writer Christopher McQuarrie, takes Wolverine to Japan where he falls for a woman named Mariko, the daughter of a Japanese crime lord. Hugh Jackman has wanted to tell this story for a while but 20th Century Fox thought they should get his origins out of the way first.
With a great writer and a great director attached there is a chance Wolverine 2 may actually be good, so I will remain cautiously optimistic until I see something that leads me to believe otherwise.
What do you think about Aronofsky directing the next Wolverine film? Will he be able to create a film to rival Batman 3, Spider-Man and Superman in 2012?
