The Dark Knight Tops IMDB Top 250
The Dark Knight mania continues!
Slashfilm noticed that The Dark Knight is now #1 on IMDB’s Top 250 movies of all time.
The top spot has been held by The Godfather since sometime in the late 1990’s (this late 1996 capture of the chart from the early days of IMDb shows Star Wars in the top slot). As far as I can tell, no film has unseated The Godfather from the top spot in the last decade. The last film to get even close was The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, which got a high as the #2 in 2004. Return of the King currently sits comfortably at #14.
It will no doubt work its way down eventually but it is a huge achievement to knock off a film that has held the top spot for years such as The Godfather. However, being a British citizen I wont be seeing this until next week so the expectations are huge. The film has not been out for three days yet and already it is already being hailed as the best movie ever, according to IMDB visitors anyway.
Is The Dark Knight really that good or are the 19,000+ males aged 18-29 who voted getting a bit excited?
