Last week we heard that 20th Century Fox and Marvel were in discussions about the rights to Daredevil, which were set to revert back to Marvel if Fox hadn’t entered production on a reboot by October.
Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces, The A-Team, and more recently The Grey) was in talks to direct, but Carnahan recently tweeted that his “idea for a certain retro, red-suited, Serpico-styled superhero went up in smoke” and as “time is not on anyone’s side” Daredevil is looking set to return to Marvel.
Rather than explaining everything, i’ll let Carnahan’s tweets do the talking:
Guys. To clarify. DD pitch was tremendous and everyone flipped for it. The clock ticked down at Fox, that’s why it went tits up.

Guys, I’d like a show of hands. How many of you want to see this DD sizzle piece? I’ll post it to YOUTUBE if I get the necessary response.

Reaction to the DD piece has been outstanding guys. Deeply appreciate it.

Guys, last time for the folks in the back of the theater– FOX DIDN’T PASS ON DD. The sand left the hourglass and time simply ran out……

While 20th Century Fox “flipped for it” there was simply no time to get a script ready for shooting by October 10th.
According to Deadline Marvel declined an extension on the rights and didn’t want to come on-board as co-financier, so Fox has no option but to let the rights revert back and just focus on the X-Men franchise and Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot.
There is a possibility Marvel could pick up Carnahan’s pitch, but that’s all down to Kevin Feige. All upcoming Marvel movies are already planned out through to 2015, so we’re unlikely to see Daredevil on the big screen anytime soon.
