Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter, The Woman in Black) is in final negotiations for the lead role in 20th Century Fox’s Frankenstein reboot. The versatile actor will play the hunchbacked Igor in the gothic tale, a role not generally associated with actors of Radcliffe’s pedigree. However, all being well, this will be another successful step away from being typecast as a boy-wizard.
Here’s the news from Variety:
From Harry Potter to hunchback–Daniel Radcliffe is in final negotiations to star as Igor in the classic tale “Frankenstein” for 20th Century Fox and Davis Entertainment. Paul McGuigan is on board to direct the gothic feature from a script by Max Landis (“Chronicle”).
Based on Mary Shelley’s 19th century novel, “Frankenstein” is expected to shoot in the fall after Radcliffe’s run in the West End play “Cripple of Inishmaan,” sources tell Variety. John Davis is producing the film, which is being described as a tale of friendship and redemption.
Radcliffe recently enjoyed some critical success in the Sundance hit, Kill Your Darlings, which co-starred Elizabeth Olsen (Godzilla 2014), Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Ben Foster (Contraband, The Mechanic) and Michael C. Hall (TV’s Dexter).
He will be seen later this year in The F Word (Release Date TBA) and Horns, which is scheduled for release in the US on 11th October 2013.
