Deadline are reporting that Daniel Craig has closed a deal with Sony to play journalist Mikael Blomkvist in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and its two sequels.
The story revolves around a young woman named Lisbeth Salander, a brilliant computer hacker who has a photographic memory, and a journalist named Mikael Blomkvist (Craig) who recruits her to find a woman who has been missing for 40 years. Sony and director David Fincher are now looking at a bunch of young actresses to play the meaty role of Salander.
Craig’s deal apparently comes after a bit of schedule juggling by a number of studios. The actor is currently filming Cowboys and Aliens (we got our first look at Craig in the movie yesterday), and is expected to begin work on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo in Sweden “as soon as he removes his cowboy hat”. Talks were also held with Bond 23 producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson who need Craig to be free once Bond 23 gets the greenlight.
Daniel Craig will be a very busy man over the next few years with the Bond and Dragon Tattoo franchises, plus a potential new one with Cowboys and Aliens (he’s signed for a sequel). We will be having a Daniel Craig overload in December 2011 with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn hitting screens within days of each other, although he will be CGI’d in the latter so it shouldn’t be too bad.
