For the past few months, JJ Abrams has kept us in the dark. Actually, that’s a lie. The man has been confusing us for years with his projects, such as Alias and Lost.
However, what I’m referring to now is the upcoming giant monster movie that he is producing. Details have been quite scarce about it since we saw the trailer a few months back. All we know is that something tears off the Statue of Liberty’s head, and the movie comes out 1-18-08. Also, mysterious photos and messages keep popping up on the films website, 1-18-08.com. Did you hear that roar yet?
Word on the street is that a new trailer will be debuting in front of Beowulf on November 16th. Not only will we learn a bit more about the movie, but apparently the title will also be attached.
According to Devin over at CHUD.com, he’s already seen the trailer. And he knows the title. And what is that title, you may ask? Why, none other that what people have been saying it was for months: Cloverfield.
Now, it is possible that he saw a work in progress, and the Cloverfield title card was just a placeholder until the real title is put in, perhaps to deter scoopers from learning its secret identity before the real trailer hits.
This is yet another film using an intriguing viral marketing campaign to lure in its audience. There’s been a ton of speculation over just what the hell this movie is about. I mean, it gets released in two months and we still don’t even know what it’s called! That JJ Abrams…he sure knows how to bring in a crowd.
