Christoph Waltz may join Muppets sequel

Good news for Muppets fans, Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz is in negotiations to play a starring role in the sequel. The role has been described as an Interpol inspector, one of a few new roles for the movie which also includes a Russian femme fatal and a dubious male lead.

The star of the last film, Jason Segal, who also co-wrote the film, will not be returning. The sequel has been reported to be more “Muppet-centric,” returning Kermit to main character status. Walter, the Muppet introduced in the last film, will also play an important role.

Even so, Waltz (assuming he signs on) will still play an important role, along with the other actual human characters mentioned above. Expect a lot of other real people in smaller roles as well. The previous Muppets film was one of the most cameo filled movies in recent memory and the sequel most likely will follow suit.

Nicholas Stoller, who co-wrote the first film with Segal, will be back for the sequel along with director James Bobin. Look for Waltz in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino film Django Unchained, which opens this December.
