With The Hunger Games lighting up the box office, it’s no shock that studios are scrambling to do what they can to replicate that success. Amber Entertainment is looking to start another female-driven action franchise with Choosers of the Slain, an adaptation of James H. Cobb’s military thriller novel about commander Amanda Garrett and her newly-acquired stealth U.S. Navy warship as she deals with an Argentinian attack on a British outpost in Antarctica. More below.
Variety reports there are three other Amanda Garrett books set up for films, should this first one perform well: “Sea Fighter,” “Sea Strike” and “Target Lock.” It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Angelina Jolie playing this role because she’s played so many of these kinds of parts in her career, but I’m really hoping they end up going with someone fresh and new for this film. Get Michelle Monaghan or someone like that in there and see how she handles the spotlight.
I’ve never heard of Amber Entertainment until now, but apparently they just wrapped an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet that starred True Grit actress Hailee Steinfeld, and her involvement alone is enough to make me want to check that out. What do you think about Choosers of the Slain? Are you ready for a Navy female action thriller?
