Getting into the spirit of the Mexican themed Machete Kills, (Robert Rodriguez’s sequel to Machete) Charlie Sheen will be billed using his Hispanic birth name. Sheen plays the President of the United States in the film, as part of an ensemble of stunt casting which also includes Mel Gibson and Lady Gaga.
While Sheen’s birth surname is Estevez, he took on his father’s showbiz moniker of Sheen. Martin Sheen was born Ramon Antonio Gerardo Estevez. The senior Sheen changed his name for a good reason as his original name isn’t the most practical credit to be featured on a movie poster.
Charlie Sheen has been known for his antics in recent years, so this name change falls right in line with the eccentric behavior we’ve come to expect from him.
Danny Trejo returns in the lead role as Machete, and this time around the U.S. government recruits him to battle his way through Mexico in order to take down an arms dealer who looks to launch a weapon into space.
In addition to the aforementioned Gibson, Gaga, and Trejo, the cast also features Jessica Alba, Antonio Banderas, Cuba Gooding Jr., Sofia Vergara, Michelle Rodriguez, Amber Heard, and Vanessa Hudgens.
Machete Kills is set for release on September 13th.
