You may remember Hot Rod director Akiva Schaffer’s new movie The Watch from its formal title, Neighborhood Watch. (The film’s marketing team decided to change the name in the wake of the Trayvon Martin shooting.) The film stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade, and is about four suburban dads who create a neighborhood watch program because they’re bored at home. But then the guys discover aliens in their neighborhood, and things get a whole lot more interesting.

The Watch was written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (the duo behind Superbad and The Green Hornet) and arrives in theaters on July 27th, 2012. What do you think? Looking forward to it?

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, the adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel set in New York City during the Roaring ’20s. The 3D movie has a stellar cast comprised of Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, Joel Edgerton, and more. Take a look below and see it for yourselves.

I’m one of the uncultured slobs who was never forced to read this book in school, and I’m sad to say I still haven’t gotten around to reading it. Despite the grand visual style we see on display here, this actually looks like it may be one of the most accessible films Luhrmann has ever directed. It’s cool to see Leo reuniting with Luhrmann for the first time since Romeo + Juliet back in 1996, and I particularly enjoyed the quick flashes of actor Jason Clarke, who starred on the terrific FOX series “The Chicago Code” before it was unceremoniously cancelled after one season; Clarke deserves a shot at the big leagues, and working with this cast seems to be exactly what he needs to take him to the next level.

By the hammer of Thor! Paramount has released two brief teaser trailers for Anchorman: The Legend Continues, the long-awaited sequel to 2004′s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy. It’s obvious after watching these that there should be a bunch of other variations on the same joke, and I’d love it if they released one a month until the film comes out next year. As expected, MGM and Sony have released the first teaser trailer for the 23rd Bond movie Skyfall, directed by Sam Mendes.

It runs for just over a minute and starts off quite solemn, but it picks up with some great shots from China and we get some action in the form of gunfire and a train derailment (possibly the London Underground?)

Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

As well as Daniel Craig returning as Bond and Judi Dench returning as M, Skyfall stars Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Helen McCrory, Ben Whishaw and Albert Finney. Director Sam Mendes said the storyline will take 007 to London, China, Turkey and Scotland, and it had “”all the elements of a classic Bond movie”.

Skyfall will be released October 26, 2012. What do you think of the teaser trailer?

CBS Films has released the first trailer for The Words, a drama set for release on September 21st, 2012. The film stars Bradley Cooper as a struggling writer who steals another man’s story and publishes it as his own, and how everyone deals with the consequences of that decision.

I saw this movie at Sundance this year and it’s a well-acted drama that, aside from being a bit predictable, plays out like a pretty good mystery story. Everyone in the cast does great work, so if you’re a diehard fan of Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Jeremy Irons (who steals the show), Ben Barnes, Dennis Quaid, or Olivia Wilde, check it out when it hits theaters.

Sony recently released an exclusive 4 minute super preview of the summer’s most anticipated movie, or so they say. As the title might suggest, that movie is The Amazing Spider-Man and what we get in this “super” preview is essentially a cool mash-up of most of the footage we’ve seen so far from trailers, plus around 1 minute of new stuff.

Now this might not really be the summer’s most anticipated film but it sure looks very cool. Also the scene with the kid was very good, although I wish they didn’t spoil something like that (so be warned if you haven’t seen the “super” preview yet).

Do I really need to give you a synopsis here? I mean it’s Spider-Man and all the trailers released have basically shown half the movie. At this point the best case scenario is we still have one hour of never before seen footage when we actually end up seeing the damn movie. Joking aside, I can’t really blame Sony for going all out, especially in a summer with superhero films like The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. On the bright side, because it was shot in 3D and Sony will push that experience the most, it won’t lose any 3D theaters to Batman come July 20th.

The Amazing Spider-Man was directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field and obviously Stan Lee somewhere in there.

The Amazing Spider-Man opens July 3rd in the US, UK and basically everywhere you can find a movie theater (unless you live in Norway, then you’ll just have to drive to Sweden or wait a week longer).

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for The Campaign, a political comedy starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as two opposing candidates for Congress in North Carolina. As you’d expect, they’re both really ridiculous and this seems like it has a lot of potential. The timing is pretty good for this one, too, since its U.S. release is set for August 10th, just before the real-life presidential elections. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments section.

When long-term congressman Cam Brady (Will Ferrell) commits a major public gaffe before an upcoming election, a pair of ultra-wealthy CEOs plot to put up a rival candidate and gain influence over their North Carolina district. Their man: naïve Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis), director of the local Tourism Center. At first, Marty appears to be the unlikeliest possible choice but, with the help of his new benefactors’ support, a cutthroat campaign manager and his family’s political connections, he soon becomes a contender who gives the charismatic Cam plenty to worry about. As Election Day closes in, the two are locked in a dead heat, with insults quickly escalating to injury until all they care about is burying each other, in this mud-slinging, back-stabbing, home-wrecking comedy from “Meet the Parents” director Jay Roach that takes today’s political circus to its logical next level. Because even when you think campaign ethics have hit rock bottom, there’s room to dig a whole lot deeper.

This cast looks like a perfect match with this director for this political send-up, and I’m pleased to see Jason Sudeikis on board as well. Are you looking forward to The Campaign?

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for The Gangster Squad which comes from Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer. The film is based on a series of articles written by Paul Lieberman which chronicle the LAPD’s fight to keep East Coast Mafia types out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 50s.

One of the main reasons to look forward to this film is the cast, which includes Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Mackie, Sean Penn, and Emma Stone.

Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. “Gangster Squad” is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.

The Gangster Squad is set for an October/November release in the UK other European countries, but no specific date has been set for the US. It’s looking likely to be sometime later this year though.

End of Watch is a very cool looking police action flick that just had its first trailer come out this past weekend. A few days ago I was as clueless about this film as any of you, but now I’m a believer.

End of Watch is an action drama centered on the long-term friendship between two cops.

This film was written and directed by David Ayer who previously worked on films like The Fast and the Furious, Training Day, S.W.A.T. (writer on all) and Street Kings (directed), so obviously the guy has a thing for law enforcement. I liked all of those films so I’m down for this one.

Also interesting to note is the way End of Watch was shot, similar to a found footage flick and, if you watch the trailer, you’ll know it’s more like Cops and less like The Blair Witch Project or Paranormal Activity.

Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena, Anna Kendrick and America Ferrera, End of Watch opens in theaters September 28th in North America.

Over the weekend 20th Century Fox released a red band trailer for The Watch, a sci-fi comedy starring Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill, Vince Vaughn, and Richard Ayoade (director of Submarine). Now you might think, wait a minute, wasn’t there another sci-fi comedy starring those three scheduled for this summer? Well this is that movie, but they changed the title from Neighborhood Watch to simply The Watch.

The Watch follows a group of neighborhood watch members that take it on themselves to protect earth from an alien invasion that just so happens to take place, you guessed it, in their neighborhood.

The idea behind the film could produce a lot of comedic moments, at least one of which is shown in the trailer (the weapon thing). Although I have to say, the premise sounds awfully similar to the one from last year’s Attack the Block. So if this film looks interesting to you, definitely give that one a watch (if you haven’t already).

Director Akiva Schaffer, mostly known for doing Saturday Night Live episodes, seems like the right guy for a film like this and the trailer looks ok. Unfortunately ok isn’t enough when you open a week after The Dark Knight Rises, so Fox really have to step up their game if they don’t want another flop on their hands.

As mentioned in the intro, The Watch stars Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill, Vince Vaughn, Richard Ayoade, and some others including Billy Crudup and Doug Jones.

The Watch opens July 27th in North America and August 29th in the UK.
