Carey Mulligan, who gained an Oscar nomination for An Education earlier this year, has joined her first big studio film following all the hype. According to Risky Business Mulligan is in negotiations to join Universal’s action thriller Drive, which already has Ryan Gosling at the wheel.
Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson) is directing the film which is an adaptation of the James Sallis novel about a nameless Hollywood stuntman (Gosling) who moonlights as a freelance getaway driver during robberies. When a bank heist goes wrong, he ends up on the run with a contract on his head and an ex-con’s girlfriend (Mulligan) in his car.
Hugh Jackman was attached to star at one point with The Decent director Neil Marshall set to direct, however that incarnation never came into function and we now have Ryan Gosling as the lead.
Carey Mulligan recently auditioned for the role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but David Fincher wanted an unknown so Mulligan missed out on the part. The actress will next be seen in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps on September 24th with Shia LaBeouf and Michael Douglas, and will probably begin filming Drive early next year.
