According to Variety Captain Marvel will be helmed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, a duo that also directed 2015 drama Mississippi Grind starring Ryan Reynolds.
I’m not really familiar with their body of work (I’ve yet to see Mississippi Grind) so can’t comment on how good a fit they are for Captain Marvel, but Kevin Feige has proven time and time again that he has an eye for picking the right director(s) for the job. So I trust that he made the right choice here. Previously there were rumors that Marvel were looking for a female director for Captain Marvel, their first ever solo female movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Meg Lefauve (Inside Out) and Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) wrote the screenplay for Captain Marvel, which will probably begin principle photography early next year under the direction of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. As far as the cast goes Brie Larson is so far the only confirmed name, but it’s safe to say she’ll probably be joined by at least one or two other MCU actors, maybe Samuel L. Jackson. Captain Marvel follows the exploits of Carol Danvers, an Air Force Pilot who gets superpowers after an accident involving an alien.
Captain Marvel is set to open on March 8th 2019. Fortunately we won’t have to wait that long to see Brie Larson play Carol Danvers as the heroine will make her big screen debut next year in Avengers: Infinity War (May 4th).
