Captain Jack Sparrow vs. zombies

Production on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is well underway and we’ve been seeing set videos and images popping up over recent weeks.

As the cast and crew are busy filming in Hawaii it was thought there would be no presence at Comic Con this weekend, however a special teaser was shown at the end of the Tron Legacy panel which surprised those in attendance.

Johnny Depp appeared as Captain Jack Sparrow in full 3D, sitting on the beach with a bottle of rum and speaking directly to the Comic-Con audience. He told everyone that it certainly wasn’t the case that he would soon be embarking on a quest to find the fountain of youth but that, even if he were, he wouldn’t be looking for a crew. But, if he did, would anyone in the audience be interested?

He promised that such an adventure would include “zombies, cutthroats, mermaids and… Penelope Cruz” and that it would be the kind of quest that would require “A bloody map. Or a bloody Mary. Or both.”

We got our first look at a mermaid in those set images earlier this week, but it is the first time we have heard about zombies. In The Curse of the Black Pearl we saw cursed undead pirates but I don’t think they qualify as zombies. They could be aiming for the Voodoo Zombie types which involves witch doctors and other crazy stuff. Whatever zombies feature they will probably be connected to the Fountain of Youth somehow.
