The Founder follows a struggling salesman who after meeting Mac and Dick McDonald helps start one of the biggest fast food empires in the world.
This is probably one of the more promising new movies coming out in January. Thing is this feature sure took a while to get here. The Founder was initially supposed to open in November last year, but then The Weinstein Company decided to push it up to August. Shortly after they started to think about awards season so the film was moved to a December date, initially limited, followed by a nationwide expansion in January. For whatever reason they changed their mind again so instead the film premiered on December 7th at the ArcLight Hollywood, in order to qualify for the Oscars. The actual release was now January 20th.
The Founder currently holds an okay 79% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 34 counted reviews with a 6.8 out of 10 average rating. So I guess it didn’t end up as good as The Weinstein Company were hoping, at least not Oscar good.
John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side, Saving Mr. Banks) directed The Founder with a screenplay by Robert D. Siegel. Starring in the biopic are Michael Keaton, Linda Cardellini, Patrick Wilson, Nick Offerman, Laura Dern, John Carroll Lynch and many others.
The Founder will finally open in the US starting January 20th.
