Following the success of The Expendables last year ($274 million worldwide) Sylvester Stallone told his Twitter followers that he wanted Bruce Willis (who had a cameo in the first movie alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger) to be a “super villain” in the sequel.
Well it seems Sly has got his wish, as Willis recently confirmed that he will be part of the movie and filming may take place sometime this year.
From Access Hollywood:
The actor also had an update on “Expendables 2,” the sequel to the 2010 action-hero film starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren.
“Apparently it’s going to happen this year,” he said. When asked if he will be in it — as has been rumored — Bruce confirmed the news.
“As far as I know, barring any unforeseen circumstances, but yeah, I would love to be a part of it,” he said.
For those who didn’t see The Expendables (spoilers) Willis has a cameo as “Mr. Church,” a shadowy crime lord figure who sends Sly and his team of mercs on their mission.
Along with more Willis, there has also been talk of Jean-Claude Van Damme showing up in the next one after turning down a role in the original. Apparently he felt there was no substance or development to his character, however while promoting The Expendables Sly said he had spoken to Van Damme and there was some regret on his part for not appearing.
If production does go ahead this year all the speculation should be cleared up soon, and we’ll find out if Sylvester Stallone insists on writing and directing once again.
