The Andy Serkis directed Jungle Book: Origins adds a bunch of big names to its cast, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett or Naomie Harris.
As you might know by now, we have two Jungle Book movies on the way, one from Disney, directed by Jon Favreau and set to open next year, and one from Warner Bros., handled by Andy Serkis and scheduled to debut in 2016. We are obviously talking about the later. First thing first, Benedict Cumberbatch will voice the villainous Shere Khan (Ildris Elba for Disney), and man is that a great casting choice. Next we have Christian Bale lending his vocals to the panther Bagheera (Ben Kingsley for Disney) while Cate Blanchett is talking for Kaa (Scarlett Johansson for Disney). Naomie Harris (Skyfall) will voice the wolf Nisha.
Andy Serkis, who is making his feature directorial debut with Jungle Book: Origins (he was previously a 2nd unit director for The Hobbit trilogy), is also voicing the bear Baloo. Finally Rohan Chand, the young boy from Jason Bateman’s Bad Words, will play Mowgli. With the movie fully cast, filming will begin soon.
Jungle Book: Origins comes to theaters starting October 21st 2016 and if you can’t wait that long, Disney have you covered with The Jungle Book opening October 9th 2015.
