We’ve had Monsters vs. Aliens, Alien vs. Predator, we’re getting Cowboys vs. Aliens this summer, and Michael Bay wants to make Zombies Vs. Robots. Now Men in Black 3 director Barry Sonnenfeld is working on a graphic novel and movie idea with comic book writer Grant Morrison called Dominion: Dinosaurs Versus Aliens. Yes, you read that right. Dinosaurs vs. Aliens.
Part of me doesn’t want to encourage this type of random ‘vs’ movie making as I can see in 10 years time there being concoctions such as Wizards vs. Pirates and Ninjas vs. Vampires. However, the other part of me acknowledges that we only live once, and where else are we going to see dinosaurs battle aliens other than in a big budget VFX blockbuster?
Here’s what Barry Sonnenfeld had to say about his idea, from Deadline:
“Growing up, my fascination was all things dinosaur, and as an adult, I’ve had some success making films about aliens, so this is a dream come true,” said Sonnenfeld, who first met Liquid Comics founder Sharad Devarajan when he wrote a forward for one of Liquid’s graphic novels. “We’ve been trying to do a project ever since.”
The graphic novel will chronicle a secret prehistoric world war battle. When an alien invasion attacks Earth in the age of the dinosaurs, the planet’s only hope is the giants that roam the planet with, it turns out, a lot more intelligence than previously realized. Sonnenfeld, Rifkin and Devarajan will produce, while Liquid cofounder Gotham Chopra will be executive producer.
The graphic novel will be published later this year in print and digital formats so we’ll be able to see what they have planned. I suppose the main question is whether humans (and actors) will be involved. It’ll be hard to get the movie off the ground with no dialogue, unless of course the dinosaurs are fluent in English, which would be silly. But then again Sonnenfeld began shooting Men in Black 3 with half the script unfinished, so anything could happen.
Does a Dinosaurs vs. Aliens movie interest you? Who would you want to win?
