Avatar crosses the $700 million mark

avatar pic Here’s a small update on Avatar‘s current box office. Just 2 days ago we posted that it had raked in around $623 million in just 11 days, and now according to Box Office Mojo it’s current box office total stands at $726 million. This film just can’t stop making money!

So far this week in the US Avatar made $19 million on Monday and $18 million on Tuesday. The same time last week the film was making around $16 million each day. It’s making more in it’s second week than it did during it’s first!

65% of it’s total gross comes from overseas where it has made $476 million, and it has yet to be released in markets such as China, Italy and Argentina. At the moment it is looking likely that it will cross the billion mark, although nothing is certain yet.

    By the end of the week Avatar will be number one worldwide. With anything between 950 million and 1 billion dollars. So yeah, at this point 1 billion is certain. The only thing that is not certain (yet) is if this will also beat Titanic's 1.8 billion. Either way Avatar is looking at 1.5 billion total to say the least. And keep in mind that so far it always went ahead of any of my predictions.

    I find it really weird people are saying it might beat Titanic. Titanic was an anomaly. Honestly, no movie has ever come close to it. The closest movie was 1.1 billion and it was the third Lord of the Rings movie. Titanic was still a whole 700 million more then that. So no movie has ever even remotely threatened it.

    Avatar will make a lot, but it's unrealistic to think it could beat Titanic. Nothing beats Titanic, not even Lord of the Rings, and think how popular that was; everyone went to see that. @.@ And it was also BASED off popular books, and it was the third movie in an incredibly popular trilogy.

    If you look at a list of the highest grossing movies ever, every movie is just a little bit ahead of the one behind it, and a little bit less then the one above it. Titanic is the only one that shot way past everyone. Avatar will climb the scales, but it's already #34 on the list, which is incredibly impressive, but thinking it'll beat Titanic.. unrealistic. I'm not bashing it, it's just silly to think it could make THAT much. I think if he decides to make a second movie, THEN he could start speculating it breaking 1.5 billion mark. I may be wrong though, I loved this movie, I hope it makes a ton more. :3
