Aubrey Plaza plays the sort of insane that needs more than a simple restraining order in the teaser trailer for the twisted comedy Ingrid Goes West.
“Ingrid Thorburn is a mentally unstable young woman in Pennsylvania who becomes obsessed with Taylor Sloane, a social media “influencer” with a seemingly perfect life in Los Angeles. When Ingrid decides to drop everything and move to the West Coast to befriend Taylor in real life, her behavior turns unsettling and increasingly dangerous.”
This trailer had style, I’ll give them that. So essentially it’s the story of a stalker and I feel like by the end this either turns into a drama or a thriller. Of those two maybe drama could set Ingrid Goes West apart from other similar movies (or not). Also as someone who watched and very much enjoyed season 1 of the X-Men show Legion, I now know that crazy fits Aubrey Plaza like a glove, so at the very least this movie might have that going. And the rest of the cast seems solid.
Matt Spicer directed and co-wrote the screenplay for Ingrid Goes West with David Branson Smith. Besides Aubrey Plaza also starring in this movie are Elizabeth Olsen, O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton, Ice Cube’s son) and Wyatt Russell (you can probably guess he’s Kurt Russell’s son).
Ingrid Goes West was first shown at the Sundance Film Festival in January and received generally positive review, currently sitting at 74% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film opens in the US on August 4th.
