Actually Anne Hathaway’s character is the one somehow controlling the Kaiju, as you will see in the following trailer for sci-fi comedy Colossal.
“After losing her job and boyfriend in New York, Gloria moves back to her hometown only to discover how strangely connected she is to an enormous Kaiju attacking Seoul.”
Imagine you’re having the worst couple of months of your life and to top everything off your mental breakdown comes with the ability to control a huge Kaiju. You’re just getting out of bed in the morning while at the same time casually destroying Seoul and probably killing hundreds of innocent people in the process. It’s an out there concept alright, but I love it. Original and very intriguing, Colossal is a movie you might want to have on your radar. I know it’s definitely on mine after this trailer.
Nacho Vigalondo (what a great name) wrote and directed Colossal. Starring in the film are Anne Hathaway, Jason Sudeikis, Dan Stevens, Tim Blake Nelson and many others.
Colossal was first screened in September last year at the Toronto International Film Festival. Since then the film made the usual festival rounds and so far early reviews are pretty positive, 79% on Rotten Tomatoes after 39 counted reviews (and you have to keep in mind the festival crowd is a lot more picky). So when can you actually watch this thing? Colossal will be available in select theaters in the US starting April 7th.
