Anne Hathaway could join indie Song One

With The Dark Knight Rises and Les Miserables set to go later this year, Anne Hathaway has the potential to be in two of this year’s biggest earners at the box office. (OK, fine – just one.) But the actress could be toning it down a bit with another indie project that would reunite her with the team behind Rachel Getting Married, the drama that earned Hathaway her first Oscar nomination. More below.

Variety reports Hathaway is attached to a drama called Song One, in which she would play “a young woman who returns home after her brother is injured and romantically connects with his favorite musician, who draws inspiration from the siblings.” The project is set to be the feature directorial debut of Kate Barker-Froyland, who was the director’s assistant on Hathaway’s 2006 movie The Devil Wears Prada. (Reunions all around!)

Hathaway has been delivering consistently solid performances for years, and if she’s after that all-important Oscar win, it’s a smart business move to get back in the saddle with the people who put you in a position to win in the first place. There’s no telling how this movie will turn out under the eye of a first-time director, but Hathaway’s got talent to spare, so I’m sure it’ll be just fine.
