Fans of zombie movies have watched vampires steadily take over pop culture for the past few years, but while they wait on more zombie-filled movies, they can turn to the small screen to get their fill. Comic book artist Robert Kirkman’s “The Walking Dead” is in its third season on AMC, and has been getting great numbers so far. So great, in fact, that the network is now developing another show from the creator – and this one is in the heist genre. More details below.
Kirkman recently told Deadline the network is looking at turning his upcoming comic “Thief of Thieves” into a series.
Much like The Walking Dead brought horror to television in a unique and groundbreaking way, I feel Thief of Thieves can do the same thing for heist stories, showing the humanity of all the characters, including the criminals,” said Kirkman.
The series will center on “master thief Conrad Paulson who, while attempting to reconcile with his estranged wife and son, vows to walk the straight and narrow, only to discover he’s completely addicted to the thrill of stealing. Now he must feed his addiction by stealing only what has been stolen.”
I’ve always been a huge fan of heist stories, so this sounds fantastic to me. I also really like the “stealing from the stealers” aspect of it – it’s very much like how Dexter Morgan is a serial killer that only kills serial killers on Showtime’s drama “Dexter.” Hopefully Kirkman can bring this project to fruition, because AMC does great work with television dramas and I can only imagine how awesome this series could be with a high profile star in the lead role.
