Alice in Wonderland to cross the $1 billion mark

alice in wonderland trailerWhen Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland was sat at $980 million worldwide just over a week ago we wondered whether it had any box office punch left in it to join the likes of Dead Man’s Chest and Return on the King in the billion dollar club. Well over the last 9 days or so the film has made another $20 million worldwide, and it will be crossing the $1 billion mark at some point over the next few days (if it hasn’t already).

Not bad for a film considered ‘Rotten‘ by movie critics.

Most of the box office gross came from overseas with $667 million, $100 million of which came from Japan alone where it spent 6 weeks at #1 (they must really like Johnny Depp over there). Wonderland also made $332 million in the US which has enabled it to become only the sixth movie ever made to take one billion dollars at the worldwide box office.

If Disney’s bank account isn’t overflowing now it will be soon. The DVD and Blu-ray will be released next week.

This was a decent movie, but in no terms was it good enough to be up there with Dark Knight or Return of the King. Not even in the same class. Maybe the 90 minute run time caused people to see it again since it was so short lol.

Sixth film … And easily the worst one yet. Honestly, it is very saddening that Burton's highest grossing film also arguably their worst, I really like it normally is as a director. Edward, Ed Wood, Big Fish, Corpse Bride and Sweeney Todd got angry masterpieces. And now? I disappointed after watching a movie in the cinema has not been since Shrek the Third. Although Linda Woolverton Burton deserves more blame than here.
