Blended (formerly known as The Familymoon) sees Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore teaming up for their third romantic comedy. The two captured both chemistry and box-office success with their previous collaborations, The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates, so they’re obviously hoping to keep the winning streak going. Oddly enough, Blended doesn’t look too dissimilar from the Sandler/Jennifer Aniston comedy Just Go With It, which also featured a love story set in an exotic resort.
Here’s the trailer:
After a bad blind date, a man and woman find themselves stuck together at a resort for families, where their attraction grows as their respective kids benefit from the burgeoning relationship.
After a couple of misfires (Jack & Jill, That’s My Boy), Sandler is going back to his roots and revisiting movie formulas of yore in an effort to get back on top again. The strategy worked with last summer’s sequel to Grown Ups, with that film grossing $246 million worldwide. Drew Barrymore could use a hit herself, with the performances of her past few films (Big Miracle, Going the Distance, Whip It) landing her in what one might call “movie jail”.
Sandler regular Frank Coraci (The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, Click) directs from a script by Ivan Menchell and Clare Sera. The rest of the cast includes Joel McHale, Terry Crews, Bella Thorne, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Kevin Nealon.
The film will be released on May 23rd where it goes up against X-Men: Days of Future Past – so don’t expect Blended to take the number one spot at the box office, but it could serve as counter-programming and sit comfortably at number two.
