There’s been a lot of activity surrounding the new Godzilla movie this week, and now Warner Bros. may be close to finding a male lead. According to Deadline Aaron Johnson has emerged as the frontrunner, and while no offer has been made, it is thought Johnson is interested. The actor won’t make a decision until new writer Frank Darabont has finished his latest draft.
Johnson would be an interesting choice. He isn’t as well-known as other actors the studio were courting (Joseph Gordon-Levvit), but he’s had prominent roles in Kick-Ass, Oliver Stone’s Savages, and more recently Anna Karenina alongside Keira Knightley and Jude Law. He’ll next be seen in Kick-Ass 2 this summer.
Godzilla will be directed by Monsters director Gareth Edwards, and the latest speculation is that the film will feature more than one monster. The story will apparently follow the story of a solider, which is presumably the role Johnson has been offered.
