Last month we heard that both X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Avengers 2 would feature Quicksilver, a mutant capable of moving and thinking at superhuman speeds. Both 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios have the rights to use Quicksilver and his sister the Scarlet Witch in films, and with Bryan Singer casting Evan Peters in his movie, it’s time for Joss Whedon to cast his.
According to Deadline Aaron Johnson is being sought, and could get the role if scheduling issues don’t prevent it. Johnson is no stranger to comic book movies having starred in Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass (alongside Evan Peters funnily enough) and appears in the sequel which hits in August. The actor has most recently appeared in Anna Karenina and plays the male lead in the upcoming Godzilla movie.
Director Joss Whedon recently spoke about the appeal of adding Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to The Avengers universe:
“You know, they had a rough beginning. They’re interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they’re not there to make things easier. I’m not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier.”
Filming will begin in February 2014, and we can probably expect casting news for Quicksilver’s sister in the near future.
