Just over a week ago we heard that Michael Fassbender was wanted by Sony for the villain in the Spider-Man reboot, and by Matthew Vaughn for X-Men: First Class. Well according to Deadline and EW 20th Century Fox has formally offered Fassbender the role of Magneto after he read for the part last week. If Fassbender accepts he will star opposite James McAvoy as Charles Xavier.
Details from Deadline:
After two weeks of reading up and coming young actors for X-Men: First Class, 20th Century Fox has formally offered the role of Magneto to Michael Fassbender. Fassbender is also being courted to play a villain in the next Spider-Man. He can’t do both and Fox is confident they will make a deal and have him join James McAvoy, who was recently set to play Xavier. Fassbender was offered the role today after reading last week, along with Aaron Johnson, Andrew Garfield, Jack Huston and Eddie Redmayne.
Johnson was spotted with Vaughn and McAvoy last month and it was thought he was in talks for Cyclops given his age, however he could have been in line for Magneto.
If Fassbender accepts then Vaughn is forming one hell of a cast, one that will no doubt please fans as Fassbender has been on their wish list for a while. Now it’s just a matter of finding young versions of Cyclops, Jean and Storm, along with other mutants that may be featuring in First Class.
